Sustainable management, conservation, and balance of economic activity with long-term capacity, demand innovation and creative thought. Maritime orientated education institutions can play a vital role in creating systemic change by fostering Entrepreneurial Mindset and Design Thinking.

Entrepreneurial mindset is the way of thinking that enables you overcome challenges, be decisive and accept responsibility for your own learning, doing and outcomes. Continuous learning is key ability and can be seen as self-driven learning. Key actions are the need to improve one’s skills, learning from mistakes and creating ideas and implementing those.

Design Thinking is a process for creative problem solving. Core features include the abilities to resolve wicked problems with systemic understanding and empathy towards user’s needs. Real life problems are usually complex problems and to solve them multiparticipatory methods and teams are needed.
